Local Leagues — Play In Person
Alongside the global online league, local city leagues bring
rated chess to your neighbourhood. Same group structure and Elo rating — just played
face-to-face at a venue near you.
How to Join a Local League
- Go to the Leagues page and find a local league in your city.
- Click Request to Join. Your request goes to the league admin for approval.
- Once approved you will appear in the standings and be grouped for the next round.
Playing In Person
- Arrange your games with your opponent directly — agree on a place and time that suits you
both. Popular spots include:
☕ Café or coffee shop
🌿 Park bench outdoors
📚 Library quiet room
♞ Local chess club
🍺 Pub or board game bar
🏢 Community centre
- Games are played over a physical board. Each league has a default time control, but players can
agree on any of the supported formats:
| Format |

| A |

| B |

Custom |
- After the game, both players submit the result on the site as usual —
select the venue and format used.
- Your Elo rating is shared across all leagues, so strong play in a local league
lifts your standing in the online league too.
